A Touch of Palestine in Barcelona …

For all those who have always been intrigued by this Middle Eastern state but have never had the opportunity to go, Ziryab brings it closer to you and offers you an authentic way to experience it. Taybeh is a beer made by a Palestinian family in the West Bank, in the beautiful village of Taybeh, surrounded by hills and where the sun shines almost every day of the year – a Mediterranean climate and sibling to the one we enjoy here in Barcelona.

Due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the difficulties faced by these brave producers are greater than those of any other, especially with the obstacles in the export of goods and the rigorous controls to which they are subjected, since all the product must pass and be validated by Israel before it can be sent to the rest of the world, which often implies delays and a lack of continuity of service.

Regardless of the obstacles, year after year the Khoury family has learned to persevere and make a fantastic beer. After the Oslo Accords reached in 1993, and when it seemed that peace could become a reality one day (a milestone that regrettably and with the passage of time has become more and more utopian) the Khoury family decided to launch the first craft brewery in the Middle East and show the world what Palestine was capable of producing. Based on traditional German production methods, they used the German “law of purity” to guarantee the non-addition of preservatives or additives to the final product, thus maintaining the pure essence of a good beer and the non-alteration of its original flavors.

Despite the difficulties mentioned, Ziryab imports Taybeh beer through its Copenhagen-based distributor, offering a wide range of tastes: Taybeh blonde, white, amber and dark. All of them fantastic, surprising and tasty, and which also combine perfectly with the fusion tapas and Shisha offered by Ziryab.

Come and taste the flavor of Taybeh, directly from the hills of Palestine, and support Palestinian producers! The village of Taybeh is also famous for celebrating a beer festival or Oktoberfest every year, and if you manage to be there at that time it is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy not only the Taybeh straight from the factory, but also the gastronomic delights of the region – You have to think that, apart from beer, the Palestinians have one of the best cuisines in the Middle East!
